No player can argue that the game of hockey has a life of it's own. Brought about by teams of adults playing what started as a kid's game, one always find themself surrounded by teammates and friends, good times and great memories. We lace our skates and play with our hearts on our sleeves. We play for fun at night and go to work the next day no matter how hard the hit was the night before. Every game we play has it's own pulse brought about by the speed of the game and the bond of the team.
RHFC would like to salute two members of the Richmond Hockey Community who were part of the pulse of every game they were a part of. Earlier this year we lost John D'Angelo, a local referee who brought his own sound and flair to the game. He was the only referee we knew who could give you a penalty and make you laugh at the same time. In early July we lost John Kelly. He was vital to the RHFC HFH3 game being played and was on the RHFC total roster. John played with all his heart and made you play your best against him. His presence will never be replaced and his smile will always be missed. In addition, the entire RHFC family would like to send a huge thank you and the best of well wishes to Mike Maniscalco. The goals that RHFC have reached are in no small part a direct result of the efforts of Mike's hard work and dedication to the cause. All of us in Richmond will miss Mike and we all know that the people of Raleigh, NC will be better off for having him be part of their community. Thanks Mike! The Third Annual Hockey for Hope charity hockey game was held on March 10th 2007 at the Richmond Coliseum. In addition to being one of the most amazing experiences any of us have any been part of, the game was a huge success as players from both teams, fans and numerous sponsors came together to make an impact on the fight against cancer. The final total is still being tallied but no matter what the grand total is RHFC has made a huge impact in the fight against this dreaded disease in three short years. Everyone involved, whether as a player, RHFC official, volunteer, sponsor, individual contributor, family memeber, friend, fan, patient or survivor should take pride in what was accomplished that Saturday afternoon. For that, we are all winners in this fight. For more about the 4th Annual Hockey for Hope game, click here. Each of the players in this game want to personally thank everyone who helped in any way with all of the behind the scene work that made it possible for us to skate in the game. Because of your hard work and your dedication, each of us were able to enjoy playing a hockey game that we will never forget. To our sponsors, we can't thank you enough. Without your generous and continued support RHFC would not be anywhere nearly as successful as it is today. From the bottom of our hearts - THANK YOU. We are all extremely grateful to each of you. To all of the fans, friends and family who attended the game, bid the auctions, bought the raffle tickets, bought merchandise and supported us with love and understanding, we can never express the impact you have all made on our lives and the lives of many people who have been stricken with cancer. All we can do is say thank you all very much for your support and dedication. One final and very big thank you goes to Allan Harvie and the entire Richmond Renegades organization, and the management and staff of the Richmond Coliseum. Thank you all very much for showing the entire community what hpckey is really all about. Your support was paramount in making Hockey for Hope III the success that it was. Lastly, to all the patients who are either battling now or who have overcome, and for those that we have loved and lost to this disease, this is for you. Thank you for being our inspiration, our strength, and our drive. The motivation we have have to put into this event comes from your strength and determination. Thank you and your families for having the courage to fight the tough fight, to fight the long fight. We hope our little event can bring all of you some joy and hope. Our true hope is that one day we never have to hold this game again. Until then, we will see you on the ice next year as we do our best to PUCK CANCER...
